Sténtor is a research-driven software project for surtitles, translation, audio description and accessibility in live performance. For privacy questions, email info@stentor.live.

This policy is intended to explain the main categories of information that may be processed. Actual processing depends on which parts of the website, software, account area, testing programme or live workflow you use.

We may receive contact details, messages, activation requests, account details, organisation or role information, feedback, questionnaire answers, audience comments, technical notes, field notes and basic website or diagnostic information.

If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google or Microsoft, Sténtor may receive the basic account information needed for authentication, such as your name, email address and provider account identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email address, Sténtor may receive the private relay email address provided by Apple instead of your real email address. These providers are used only for account access, activation, downloads and access-code management, not for advertising, profiling or marketing tracking.

When you request access, activate Sténtor, download builds or manage access codes, we may process the information needed to provide those functions: name, email address, organisation, role, platform requested, access status, download or activation metadata and support messages.

This information is used to provide access, keep the project secure, assist users, understand real deployment contexts and maintain a record of enabled accounts or testing participants.

When Sténtor is used during rehearsals or performances, the software may process temporary technical information needed to connect screens and audience devices, such as local session state, device connection status, selected language, accessibility options, live cue state and basic diagnostic logs.

Where possible, audience-device information is treated as technical and temporary. Sténtor is designed to support access to surtitles, translations and audio descriptions, not to identify spectators unnecessarily.

Information is used to reply to messages, provide account access, manage activation and downloads, operate live features, support users, understand how Sténtor works in real rooms, improve the software and documentation, maintain security, and support research on live-performance text and accessibility.

Depending on the context, processing may be based on taking steps requested by you, providing a requested service, consent for optional feedback or questionnaires, legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the project, research documentation, or legal obligations where applicable.

We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Feedback, questionnaires, audience responses and field notes may be used to improve Sténtor and support research on surtitles, translation, audio description, audience devices and accessibility in live performance. Questionnaires may be collected during or after a performance when the project or venue chooses to use them.

Where possible, public discussion, reports and research materials use aggregated, anonymised or de-identified information rather than identifiable personal data.

Scripts, translations, notes, live audio-description cues, recorded audio-description material, project files and uploaded or imported materials remain the responsibility of the person or organisation using Sténtor. Only share or upload material when you have the right to do so.

Sténtor may technically process this material when needed to prepare, display, export, synchronise or operate the project, but the project does not claim ownership of the content you create or import.

Some cloud or synchronisation features may be introduced or expanded as Sténtor develops. If these features are enabled, they may involve syncing project files, account identifiers, access permissions, technical logs or collaboration metadata through selected technical providers.

When cloud functions are materially expanded, this policy will be updated with clearer information about what is synchronised, which providers are involved, retention criteria and user controls.

Sténtor may rely on technical providers for website hosting, authentication, email, downloads, account access, repositories, diagnostics, distribution or future cloud synchronisation. These providers are used to operate the project and are not authorised to use Sténtor data for their own advertising or marketing profiling.

We keep information only as long as needed for communication, account access, activation, support, project development, security, research documentation or archival purposes. Retention periods may vary according to the type of information and the context in which it was provided.

You may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of personal information, or request portability where applicable, by emailing info@stentor.live. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

The website uses only technical and functional technologies necessary to operate the website, account access, downloads and access-code management. Sténtor does not use advertising cookies, profiling cookies or third-party marketing trackers.
